[9] - The Castle of the Pomeranian Dukes Barnim the III built the first stone building on the castle hill in 1346. The south wing was constructed during the reign of Bogusław X. The east wing was built by his son Barnim XI. Both wings were changed to Renaissance style by Duke Jan-Frederik in 1575-77. At the same time north and west wings replaced the original brick buildings. The fifth wing, the Museum wing, was added by Duke Phillip II and Francis I between 1616-19. The castle was destroyed by bombs in the Second World War, but has been completely rebuilt and today it is the regional cultural centre, with Opera House, University headquarters and many other cultural institutions. A lot of small treasures are to be found on individual wings: the commemorating plaque of the Duke Barnim II, modern mosaic solar clocks, face clock from 16/17 century on the Clock Tower, sarcophagus room in the East Wing, exchibitions in the North and South Wings and the Tower of Bells.
